Born from the hobby. Built for the community.
Where It All Started
It started in 2021 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. We were just hobbyists who were tired of the same old story — walking into a big box store and finding the bare minimum when it came to feeder variety for reptiles and exotic animals. We knew there had to be a better way. So we became that better way.
We launched under the name Kill Devil Feeders, starting simple with Dubia roaches and building from there. Then the hobby threw us our first curveball.
The 2021 Superworm Crisis
While the world was navigating a pandemic, the feeder insect industry was quietly dealing with one of its own. Major suppliers across the country began losing superworms by the millions to an unknown illness — later identified by Rutgers University as the Zophobas morio Black Wasting Virus. Farms were devastated. Supply chains collapsed. It was a wake-up call for the entire industry.
For us, it was a turning point.
Going Deep
After leaving the Outer Banks later in 2021, we stepped back from the spotlight. A new local competitor, OBX Lizard Land, was building a major name just a couple miles away — and honestly, good for them. We used that time differently.
We went deep. Really deep.
Over the next several years, we dove headfirst into the science and art of feeder insect breeding — superworms, Dubia roaches, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and beyond. We became obsessed with bioactive and naturalistic terrarium design. We even dabbled in floating aquatic plants, because why not?
During this period, we rebranded as Killers Feeders and created our first original product: Killers Chows. What started as a basic superfood blend evolved into a premium diet line made with organic fruits, vegetables, and berries — formulated to be the most nutritious and appealing diet possible for feeder insects.
Hampton Roads: A New Chapter
We relocated our operations to Indian River in Chesapeake, Virginia — right in the heart of Hampton Roads. A new market. A new community. A new opportunity to do things right.
We successfully cultured over 50 different isopod species and started offering wholesale to local stores in the area like Simply Pets & Pet Paradise.
We never stopped learning during those years of quiet growth. In this time we learned what it means to be a community supported/ing business, and in May 2025, everything changed again.
Expos
We started vending at Exoticon, a local reptile expo — and our very first show was a major success. We came with botanicals, plants, our expanded diet line, isopods, roaches, scorpions, and floating plants. The response from the community was incredible. We were hooked.
In 2026, we went even harder. We expanded to Richmond, joining the Diamondback Productions shows at Richmond Speedway, and started offering a full feeder lineup at every Exoticon show. The table keeps growing. The catalog keeps growing.
Today, Killers Feeders & Supplies carries over 150+ products for a wide variety of exotic pets — and we're just getting started.
Why We Do It
We're not a big box store. We never will be. We're hobbyists who turned a passion into a purpose — to give fellow keepers, breeders, and enthusiasts access to the quality feeders, supplies, and bioactive components they deserve.
Every product we carry, every show we vend, and every order we deliver is driven by one thing: love for these animals and the people who keep them.
